LASER FACIAL VEINS
Overview
Spider veins are visible groups of tiny blood vessels just under the skin’s surface, often resembling a spider web or tree branch pattern. Found most commonly on the legs and face, spider veins can be caused by genetic and hormonal factors, as well as aging, obesity, and sun damage. While spider veins do not require medical treatment, many people elect to remove spider veins for aesthetic reasons.
Who Can Benefit
Most people are able to undergo laser therapy for facial veins. However, people with diseases of the blood vessels or bleeding and/or scarring problems may not be good candidates. Prior to undergoing treatment, you will have a skin evaluation to determine the best type of laser to use and to ensure that your veins are not varicose veins. Although laser therapy is useful for spider veins, it is not used on varicose veins.
How It Works
The light beam emitted from the laser targets the blood in the vein beneath the skin surface. When the energy is absorbed, it is converted to heat, which results in coagulation, or closure, of the blood vessel. The laser treatment may feel like a mild sting for a fraction of a second, but no anesthesia or pain medicine is required. The laser has a built-in cooling tip that not only helps to protect the skin but also helps to minimize the discomfort.
